Here follows a list of freeware and shareware programs that I use or intend to try to use on my PC computers. This page will be continuously be extended as time goes by...

Some Programs

FTP Explorer - FTP client that integrates well with Explorer.
PowerArchiver 2001 - The Ultimate Freeware Archive Utility for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000.
fpTeX - A LaTeX package based on web2c.
MikTeX - A recognized LaTeX package. I currently use this package 2003-04-09.
Synchron X - Small program that synchronizes files and directories.
Directory Compare - Bigger program that synchronizes files and directories.
TextCalc - Simple texteditor with a built in calculator.
Xcalc32 - Free RPN desktop calculator.
Mahogany - Email client that supports IMAP and POP3. I currently use this email client and I am impressed by its speed.

Secure shells and terminal programs

PUTTY, PSCP Free Win32 Telnet/SSH Client and secure copy.
WinSCP is freeware SCP (Secure CoPy) client for Windows 95/98/2000/NT.
Tera Term (Pro) is a free software terminal emulator for Windows
TTSSH An SSH Extension to Teraterm.
X Thin Pro v 6.0 - X server one that I have used.

Unix tools that are ported to the Windows platform

cygwin - Many GNU tools compiled for Windows.
xfig - A simple but excellent vector editing program. There is an old installation description for windows .
GSview - Postscript and pdf viewer for the Windows platform, uses ghostscript below.
Ghostscript 7.0 - A set of tools for displaying and manipulating postscript and pdf files.
pstoedit - Convert postscript files to some editable formats, e.g. fig format used by xfig and many other vector formats. This program is included in gsview.

NT Emacs - The best editor/programming environment in the world.
X Emacs - The best editor/programming environment in the world.
The Dot Emacs site, a comprehensive archive contributed emacs configuration files.
AucTeX - LaTeX modes for emacs.
Ispell - The spell checking package. There are also a set of dictionary files available, english, Swedish.
Aspell - Maybee the successor of ispell. There are binaries for win32 platform.
Matlab mode for emacs.

Mail program

I was looking for a good mail client but havent found any good ones... I use Mahogany but it does not support several connections to different SMTP servers.

i.Scribe does not have SSL.
NetMail did not have IMAP.
